Baby Sarah smiles after recovering from severe acute malnutrition at a healthcare centre supported by Islamic Relief in Gedaref, Sudan. When the infant arrived, she had a high fever, persistent diarrhoea, peeling skin and swelling over her entire body. Her case was severe and, without treatment, may well have proved fatal. But, after two months of carefully planned therapeutic feeding and the gradual reintroduction of solid foods, Sarah recovered. Sarah’s family are among the more than one million internally displaced people now living in Gedaref state, many of whom are suffering from the effects of food insecurity. In 2025, Islamic Relief’s nutrition and health interventions in Sudan reached more than 367,900 people. Read Sara’s story.
